Curling Ontario Launches Pilot Program for Safe, Inclusive, Accessible Club Accreditation
Curling Ontario is launching a groundbreaking new pilot program: the Safe, Inclusive, Accessible Club Accreditation program. This initiative is designed to support curling clubs across the province in their ongoing efforts to become more inclusive, accessible, and safe environments for all members and participants.
Based upon feedback from our engagement tour with member clubs conducted last year, several clubs expressed feeling overwhelmed by the capacity required to take the necessary steps toward these important initiatives. In response, Curling Ontario recognizes the need to support clubs in navigating these priorities and is proud to facilitate this process through the new accreditation program.
The optional Accreditation Program will run on a pilot basis for the remainder of the curling season. Clubs are not mandated to implement these initiatives but are encouraged to participate to enhance their practices regarding inclusion, safety, and accessibility. The program is designed to provide clubs with a structured approach to assessing and improving their facilities and policies. The goal of the program is for Curling Ontario to provide clubs with guiding policies, templates, resources, and support to implement each of the criteria. Several of those resources are available now, with additional support to come as the program evolves.
The accreditation program features a comprehensive checklist of criteria based on three key pillars: Inclusion, Safe Sport, and Accessibility. Clubs will be evaluated on their adherence to the criteria by Curling Ontario staff and will receive accreditation at either the Gold, Silver, or Bronze level depending on their performance.
This program is available to Member Clubs of Curling Ontario, so please remember to create your Curling Ontario number to access the member services section of our website.
