Safe Sport at Curling Ontario

At Curling Ontario, the safety and well-being of all participants in our sport is paramount. We are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for everyone involved, from athletes and coaches to officials and volunteers.

WHY SAFE SPORT MATTERS

Safe Sport is now a central priority for federal and provincial governments. The movement seeks to ensure that people of all ages, abilities and skill levels can participate in sport free from harassment, discrimination, and abuse, and that their physical and mental health is protected.

Regulatory & Funding Implications

In Ontario, some Safe Sport measures are legislated and apply to all sport organizations, including curling clubs. Our organizations work together to meet these standards and to support clubs in implementing the policies, training and procedures needed to keep sport safe for everyone.

COACHING ASSOCIATION OF CANADA LOGO

The Coaching Association of Canada has led the push for abuse prevention through the “Responsible Coaching Movement,” which encourages sport organizations to adopt strong policies and practices that protect participants. Key elements include background screening, codes of conduct, ethics training, and the Rule of Two — all designed to reduce risk and create safe environments for athletes, coaches, volunteers, and staff.

Resources & Support

Curling Ontario has developed practical resources to help curling clubs and centres understand legal obligations and implement best practices. These materials guide clubs through policy development, screening, training, reporting procedures, and operational steps to keep the sport safe and welcoming for everyone.
