Richmond Hill Curling Club (RHCC) is seeking an experienced curling ice professional for a structured leadership transition role with a defined pathway to the Head Ice Technician position following the planned retirement of the incumbent (currently projected for the 2028–2029 season).

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with the current Head Ice Technician in a hands-on operational environment, contributing directly to the delivery of high quality curling ice while progressively building the leadership, technical, and operational capability required to take full responsibility for the Club’s ice program in the future.

The Club:

RHCC is a member owned 6-sheet facility in the north end of the Greater Toronto Area. We have over 550 current members and are growing. In addition to league play, we support local school programs and do corporate rentals.

Compensation:

Starting at a minimum $65,000, negotiable depending on experience and qualifications. Rate will be reviewed annually, with progression to Head Ice Technician compensation upon successful transition into the role. The club is open to either a salaried employee position or a structured contract arrangement for qualified candidates.

Key Responsibilities

Working in collaboration with the Head Ice Technician during the transition period, the Senior Ice Technician will:

• Support the development and execution of RHCC’s ice maintenance program to deliver consistent, high-quality curling ice.
• Supervise, schedule, train, and mentor ice technician staff, with increasing leadership responsibility over the transition period.
• Lead seasonal ice installation, maintenance, and removal activities.
• Assist with operating, monitoring and maintaining, as necessary, the ammonia-based ice plant, dehumidifiers and rink heaters, and keep records and logs in compliance with TSSA standards.
• Ensure compliance with all workplace safety standards and training requirements.
• Work collaboratively with Club management and the Facilities & Ice Conditions Committee, in an advisory capacity, to support ice quality standards, equipment planning, and facility requirements.
• Support other club operations as required, in alignment with the employee’s competencies and skill set.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in curling ice preparation, maintenance, and management.
• Thorough knowledge of curling ice installation, pebbling, scraping, nipping, and seasonal ice removal. As well, some experience in maintaining the rink equipment.
• Familiar with Jet Ice water purification system
• A basic understanding of the operation of an ammonia-based ice rink plant.
• Experience supervising and training staff.
• Curling Ontario Head Ice Technician qualification or equivalent. Ie. Level 2 Ice tech program
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently, hours that will include weekends, early mornings and evenings.
• Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
