Athlete Development & the
Long‑Term Curler Development (LTCD) Framework

Curling Ontario’s Role

As the provincial sport organization (PSO) for curling in Ontario, Curling Ontario leads the delivery of athlete development programming across the province. We provide a coordinated spectrum of programs, services and competitions tailored to every stage of the Long‑Term Curler Development (LTCD) model.

WHAT IS LTCD?

The LTCD — developed by Curling Canada — is a national framework that prescribes age‑ and stage‑appropriate activities for both recreational and competitive curlers. It ensures consistent development standards across the country and helps clubs, coaches, and PSOs deliver the right support at the right time.

How the System works

  • The LTCD relies on partnerships: no single organization delivers everything. Local clubs provide the everyday training environment and recreational opportunities; Curling Ontario delivers provincial programs, talent pathways, and meaningful competitions.
  • Our shared goal is to ensure that curlers with performance aspirations receive the appropriate interventions — coaching, competition, training resources — as they progress through the pathway.
  • Curling Ontario is committed to leading LTCD implementation across Ontario so that every curler, regardless of age, stage, or ability, enjoys a positive and developmentally appropriate experience within the sport.

Athlete Development Strategic Priorities

Participation — More curlers, curling more often
  • Activate the TRY | LEARN | PLAY recruitment pathway through member clubs.
  • Increase youth participation and strengthen junior development opportunities.
  • Foster diverse, inclusive environments — expanding access for women, ParaSport athletes, and equity‑seeking communities.
  • Offer a broad range of competitions and events to suit all ages, abilities, and skill levels.
Performance — World‑class development for athletes
  • Provide a clear athlete pathway with targeted programs to support progression from grassroots to high‑performance.
  • Deliver coach development and support to improve the quality of daily training environments.
  • Create competitive opportunities that align with LTCD stages and prepare athletes for higher levels of competition.

Curling Ontario is dedicated to helping every curler reach their potential — from first stone to podium performance — by working with clubs, coaches, and partners to deliver a connected, stage‑based development system across the province.
