ABOUT THE CLUB
Burlington Curling Club is one of the most successful and financially stable Curling Clubs in Canada, with a hard- working and dedicated staff, fun and appreciative members, a progressive Board of Directors and an unmatched working environment. Our Club is fully committed to providing a positive, inclusive work environment, with the highest safety standards.
The BCC is a very busy club with approximately 750 members curling on 5 sheets. The club is open from the last week in September to mid – April. There are up to 42 draws scheduled each week, normally with 6 draws each day.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the hospitality operations within the
Burlington Curling Club, ensuring exceptional customer service to members by managing staff, coordinating
events, maintaining facilities, and overseeing food and beverage service, all while adhering to the club’s
standards and budget to maximize club experience including member safety, member health and the club’s
financial health.
Key Responsibilities:
• Staff Management
o Hire, train and supervise all hospitality staff including servers, bartenders, banquet staff and
kitchen personnel;
o Schedule staff shifts to optimize efficiency based on event volume and member usage;
o Hire and train office staff;
o Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and development;
o Ensure that all staff are trained for safety procedures, use of defibrillator, and the necessary
procedures to react to any ice injury.
• Event Management
o Coordinate and execute all club events including bonspiels, private parties, corporate functions
and social gatherings;
o Manage event planning details such as catering menus, room setup, entertainment, and guest
lists;
o Collaborate with other departments like the kitchen and maintenance to ensure seamless
event execution;
o Promote our club lounge to club members and outside entities for social and business events.
• Food & Beverage Operations
o Oversee the quality and consistency of food and beverage service in the club’s dining areas and
bars;
o Ensure proper stock levels and ordering as required;
o Monitor inventory levels and manage food and beverage costs to maintain profitability
o Develop and implement beverage and catering menus based on member preferences and
seasonal trends;
o Maintain and update the POS system and inventory;
• Member Relations
o Actively engage with members, address concerns and complaints promptly, and build positive
member experience.
o Gather member feedback to identify areas of improvement and enhance the overall club
experience;
o Implement member loyalty initiatives to promote engagement;
o Maintain goal of 750 members through annual renewals and learn to curl recruitment as well as
outside marketing’
o Provide necessary information to new curlers
o Maintain regular newsletter, schedule, website and sponsorship to membership.
• Financial Management
o Monitor and manage the hospitality budget, ensuring cost-effective operations while
maintaining quality standards;
o Work in collaboration with staff and the board of directors on the club budgets and propose
opportunities for improvement;
o Analyze financial reports to identify trends and opportunities for cost optimization;
o Prepare budget forecasts and track expenditures against budget allocations;
o Maintaining and updating sponsorship, financial and promotional obligation.
• Facility Management
o Maintain cleanliness and appearance of all hospitality areas, including lounge, bar, kitchen,
bathrooms, changerooms, and board room.
o Oversee routine maintenance and repairs of hospitality equipment and facilities.
Required Skills
• Excellent customer services skills with a focus on member satisfaction.
• Strong leadership and supervisory abilities to manage and provide training to a diverse team.
• Strong Time Management skills
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with members, staff and guests;
• Proven experience in event planning and execution;
• Knowledge of food and beverage operations and standards;
• Has or is willing to get their SMART Serve;
• Financial Management skills including budgeting and cost control;
